Carbon-Neutral Travel 2019

24%

If 50 people commit to (1) thinking twice about each flight they take, and (2) purchasing carbon offsets for any air travel they do take, we'll all do it and aim for carbon-neutral travel in 2019.

Short description:

Fly less and commit to offset any CO2 emissions from air travel this year! Offsetting CO2 emissions from air travel means investing in carbon reduction programs elsewhere. So how does this work?

1) Think twice before flying.

2) When you do fly, you must:

a. Calculate your carbon emissions from the flight at https://www.cooleffect.org/content/travel-offset

b. Purchase carbon credits from a reputable supplier- we recommend the two below:

Goal / impact

Transportation is a major contributor to CO2 emissions and climate change, and air travel is the worst of the worst. To address the high environmental cost of air travel, we need to reduce flying AND commit to offsetting the CO2 we do release. Carbon offsets are essentially investments in projects that remove carbon from the atmosphere – this could be a solar project that provides carbon neutral energy in Africa, or a reforestation project that grows trees in Ecuador (You may be wondering why I reference developing countries. Carbon offsets are much less expensive in these countries – ten dollars or euros can go a lot farther in terms of conservation, reforestation, or alternative energy in these countries). How do you purchase carbon offsets? Two of the most reputable places are right below:
