Goal / impact

Palm oil is everywhere: in our ice-cream, biscuits, crisps, cosmetics, detergent, butter - everywhere. You might think: great, what a versatile thing! And yes, it is versatile. Unfortunately, it's not only versatile in its uses, but also in its effects. To grow palm oil, 300 football fields of rainforest are cleared EVERY HOUR to make way for palm oil plantations - destroying the habitat of endangered species like orangutans and the sumatran tiger, releasing tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and destroying the homes of indigenous people. On top of that, the palm oil industry is in the top 4 of worst industries, notorious for forced labour and child labour. And to what end? It's high time that we as consumers tell the big brands 'NO'! We don't want your destructive palm oil! Together we can save the rainforest by deciding what we spent our money on: buying only products that don't contain palm oil but instead use a sustainable alternative. Let's go save some orangutans!

If 50 people commit to not eating/using products that contain (unsustainable) palm oil for two weeks (13 November - 26 November), we all do it.
